We recently discussed about how to DIY a ombre shoulder studded sweater and that’s why today I’m going to share with you on how to DIY a dip dye ombre denim jacket. Ombre designs are always a perfect match when you pair it with daisy denim shorts and you’ll be pulling off a denim overall look.
I chose to dip dye the denim jacket because they are easily matched with my other outfit. Not only are they fashionable, but they can pull off a certain look with character and confidence. Let’s get down to what we need for this DIY project!
Things you need:
You will definitely need a used denim jacket (why would you dip dye a new one? It’s too wasteful of an outfit). Maybe you can go to thrift shop or something to get one at a cheap price. You could possibly purchase a new one when you get comfortable with the dip dyeing process. Things can get messy and therefore you will definitely require a pair of gloves to protect your hands. You need a pole to hang your denim jacket while dipping it into the coloring. The coloring will be made using a packet of . Last but not least, a combination of bucket, bleach, salt and water!
How to steps:
Step 1: Firstly, fill up the bucket with water. You can then add the same amount or bleach (or add as you deem fit) and then add the fabric dye that we have gotten. You can add them slowly and stir the solution as you add the dye. If you want deeper color, then you can add more of the dye. Once you have stirred long enough, you can move on to step 2.
Step 2: You can then use the pole through the denim jacket as though you are going to hang it. Submerge the denim jacket on the pole into the bucket containing the coloring that we have mixed earlier on. The depth in which you wish to submerge your jacket depends how much you wish to dip dye in the first place. Get creative and create your own wishes! Tips: The bleach will bleed a few centimetres up from the level of submergence, hence give some allowance from the water level to the highest point of bleaching you wish to create on the denim jacket. Once this is done, get a 20-25 minutes break and have a cup of tea while you let the magic work.
Step 3: Now if you took out the jacket, there should be a first layer of coloring on your denim jacket. To create the layering effect, you can dip dye the jacket in the bucket again, but this time submerge your jacket up till the point you wish to have a 2nd layer of deeper color on the denim jacket. Repeat the same steps of leaving the jacket in the bucket for 20-25 minutes before you take it off. Repeat this process until you create the number of layers that you’d like, preferably 3-4 layers maximum.
Step 4: Empty the bucket with the coloring and this time fill it up with water and vinegar. Soak the wet denim jacket into the bucket to do up the finishing touch, to stop the bleaching process. Then you can wash every solution on the jacket off to get your final product. There you have it, a dip dyed ombre denim jacket. Pair it up with a nice pair of leather bags and you will off the rock chic look for your outing.
