What's Your Skirt Style?

Wednesday, 4 June 2014

It’s easy to get into a style rut, especially when the average day involves rushing around getting things done, it's very easy for me to throw on a pair of skinny jeans and be done with it. But I have so many other options in my wardrobe that are being ignored. Today I wanted to focus on the latest skirt trends (of all various lengths and fit) and now that summer is here I think it's time we all embraced the idea of stepping out of the jeans...

MINI
If you like a mini skirt (and who doesn't) you want to be careful you're wearing it in the right way. A micro mini, skyscraper heels and a backless top might not be the best idea for running out to the post office, but a bright coral skort with a plain tee and flats is a casual look. A good rule to remember is that if your mini feels too dressed-up, team it with flat shoes and you’ll come right back down to earth. Of course, when it's a special occasion it's time to dig out a leather mini skirt and at the moment the PVC shine is having a comeback but this time in soft pastels shades.

MAXI
Maxi skirts and dresses are so easy to wear. They’re feminine, romantic and they cover a multitude of sins! I can feel very over-dressed in a maxi skirt so I tend to wear them with flat sandals or even knot the skirt at the bottom and throw on a pair of converse. But come evening, you can afford to swap the converse for heels and if it's a high waisted maxi try a cropped vest to show off a little skin in an unusual place.

MIDI
The versatile suits-all midi skirt can mean anything from a relaxed knee-length jersey or full-on tight leather pencil number. If neither of these are your style, try the most popular summer trend for 2014, the full and bouncy printed midi. Next time you’re out shopping, check out the fab range of skirts from George at ASDA. When it comes to midis, there is such a huge range on offer at the moment - it’s not finding one that’s the problem, it’s limiting yourself to coming home with just one!

I'm personally trying to find more occasions to wear the 50s inspired midi length skirts! They'd be fantastic for a British holiday in the countryside but it's going to take some perseverance for me to step out of my skinny jeans comfort zone. I'd like to know which skirt styles you'll be wearing this summer and if you'd be interested in seeing a post on ways to style one skirt for different occasions.

  1. I'm finding myself more and mind throwing on a skirt rather than jeavs. It's much easier and looks more stylish

  3. Midi is definitely my signature style at the moment. I especially love the fishtails we're seeing on midis at the moment :)
