Put a T-shirt On

Photobucket

Pink Marbled Tee - eBay
Black Skirt - ASOS
Bracelets - H&M
Nails - Revlon 'Lilac Pastelle'

I look very serious in these photos, and rightly so - this tshirt is seriously amazing. I love a longer length sleeve on basic tees but you usually cant find them without a super high neckline too (men's t-shirts) but this one is a perfect feminine fit. And can you believe I got it for just a penny! Yes 1p! Postage was £3.76 but it was sent all the way from South Korea. For the price its great quality, with a slightly sheeny metallic finish.
It reminds me of the whole tie-dye, dip-dye, marbling trend that's going around at the moment and will look very hippy chic in the summer with a chiffon maxi skirt. Have a look at the eBay seller's shop they have some lovely items, I think my penny deal was a one off though as I cant find this tee for that price any more ( I bought it at auction and probably was the only bidder...)

The support acts for The Stone Roses at Heaton Park were released a few days ago and I'm more than happy that I'll also be seeing The Vaccines on the same day! It makes the ticket cost seem even more worth while. My little tribute to them comes in the form of this post title. Any fans recognise the song?

I've got lots of exciting blog posts planned for the next week or so - depending on when things arrive in the post, but I will reveal all shortly! Its now my Easter hols so even though I have a essay to write and a project to start I will be able to blog much more often.

Playground Swings

Dress - Primark
Converse White Leather Hi Tops
Sunglasses - New Look
Bracelets - H&M
Necklace and Ring - Fashionology
Nails - Revlon 'Lilac Pastelle'

Another beautiful today and I couldn't let it go by without trying some new photo ideas. Which is exactly what I did, heading down to a near by playground and surrounding fields to take some photos with a few friends.
This Primark dress reminds me so much of the Topshop ones, they even have that iconic grey midi dress in stock at a fraction of the Topshop price. I've tried both on and they seem exactly the same - although neither suited me at all! This purple-lilac shade is my new favourite colour for Spring.

My converse were a must for trekking through fields and I like the sporty vibe achieved with both a tshirt dress and trainers. This Revlon nail polish is also a new favourite, picked up in Poundland for yes, just a £1!
I'm off to watch The Hunger Games tonight, and if you follow my Twitter you'll know how obsessed I was with the books so I'm crossing my fingers it lives up to them.

What's on my Wrist #2

Watch - River Island
Bracelets - H&M
Rings - Primark

The weather is beautiful at the moment. I finished Uni by lunchtime today so went for a walk with Alison and ate ice cream in the sun. She kindly gave me these Primark layering rings as they were too big for her and I think they look great for the Spring. All my jewellery is becoming much more colourful in fact and its a good way to add something to a plain outfit. I spent the rest of today in my garden, talking to the cats and drinking tea. Bring on 3 weeks off for the Easter holidays!

You might have noticed my Galaxy Shop has no completely sold out and I'm left with no stock! I've had numerous emails asking me when tshirts will be back in stock but I've been so busy and not really felt like making tees in a while. But fear not, sometime this week I'm going purchase a big pile of black tshirts to work on and should hopefully be re-stocked in 1-2 weeks.

You can see What's on my Wrist #1 also featuring this watch here.

Little Denim Dress

Denim Dress - Primark
Belt - Primark
Boots - Doc Martens
Ring - Primark
Headband - H&M

These photos were taken by a friend of mine in a local park . The weather has been lovely recently, maybe still a bit too chilly for bare legs but these images were for her Uni project so I braced the cold! She styled the whole outfit herself and I love this denim shirt dress. I've seen it in Primark before but never thought much of it until I had it on. Its a perfect day dress for the Spring and denim can be paired with almost anything and look great.
I'm very much all about my denim at the moment as you'll hopefully see in an upcoming diy post.

All my uni assignments have been handed in and I have a free weekend before we get the next brief on Monday. Whoop! I already know its going to be about producing a photo-book so I'm quite excited for that. My favourite parts of a project are the beginnings - any energy or excitement trails off towards hand in day.
Yesterday I found this kimono that I have been lusting after (see here in my Spring 2012 wishlist) in the Miss Selfridge sale for less than half price! Hoping its as beautiful in real life as it is online.

Also noticed recently that I hit a huge 700 followers! Wow! Thank you girls so much its hard to even imagine that number of people all in one room!

Studio Shoot - Part One

I thought you guys might like to see some of the stuff I've been working on recently. On Monday morning I headed down to the studios in Uni with one of my most beautiful models (and best friends) Alison. I had about 3-4 outfits for her in various light set ups - and these images are just from the first styling. I was going for a grungy/rocker look but due to Ally's dark hair and eyes they came out quite gothic which I really like!

I did the whole styling and makeup myself, but I am in no way a brilliant makeup artist and need to find some friends who want to come in and do makeup for me! (Sorry about the watermarks, but some people are very disrespectful of photographer's rights and copy and paste images without even thinking about their source!)

It's quite exciting to show this side of my life on my blog, fashion photography is what I really want to get into in the future and as you probably know I study Photography at Uni. But seen as though this is a fashion blog afterall, I thought I'd provide a list of the clothes/makeup...

Leather Jacket - Peacocks
White Shirt - H&M
Black Body - New Look
Cross and Feather Necklace - Fashionology
Other Jewellery - unknown (gifts)
Sunglasses - Primark
Tights - DIY
Wedges - New Look
Leather Fingerless Gloves - Topshop
Red Lipstick - MUA
Eye Makeup - NAKED palette

This is just Part One of the whole shoot - we worked for nearly 4 hours so I've got plenty more images to share. I'd love to get your opinions and would you like to see more of my photography work in the future? I do have a website showcasing my work but its quite out of date now so will need some work!

Sunday Nails

Leighton Denny - '3 Times a Lady' - Harrod's Edition Glossybox

I was so happy to receive this polish in my latest Glossybox! This is my first Leighton Denny polish and the pastel pale pink is just my kind of shade especially around this time of year. The polish itself is very sheer unless built up, here I have 3 coats of the polish on but would probably add a fourth for good measure. The formula is lovely and creamy and glides on to the nails without a problem. The coats dry fairly quickly (faster than Barry M or Models Own) and the brush was easy to use.
Just one coat of this polish could be applied over a white tip to create a soft French manicure or built up like this for a pop of pastel pink. I'm enjoying building up my collection of nail polishes and new favourite brands being Deborah Lippman and OPI. I think I may invest in more Leighton Denny polishes in the future.

On another note, Happy Mother's Day! My siblings and I treated my Mum to fancy chocolates and flowers today but unfortunately I'm working so won't get to do anything too special during the day. I've got an exciting  photo shoot planned for tomorrow and am still rushing around preparing everything for it. Hopefully I'll have some good shots to show you!

New Beauty Buys

Mac Mineralized Skin Finish Natural in 'Medium'
I bought this a few weeks ago after hearing such amazing reviews about it. So far I'm a little unimpressed. I find buffing a small amount in to my skin does nothing for the overall appearance of my make up. Dabbing the MSF on with a flat topped kabuki seems to be working better but it doesn't control shine like I hoped it might. I bought the Medium shade because I didn't want that white-powder look and I wanted something I could use all summer. I'm going to stick with it for a while, does anyone have any tips about how they use theirs?

Mac Blush in 'Utterly Game'
I love this blush. It's a beautiful orangey-peach shade which I never in a million years thought I would wear, but on the cheeks the orange is muted out leaving a lovely pinky-peach. I find it works better on warmer skin so it will be perfect for the summer!

Primark Beauty Nail Set
I spotted this little set of pastel colours for just £2 last week. I've been wanting to introduce a few more pastel shades into my collection and I love all of these colours. Especially the pale pink and mint green. Application is great for such a cheap product, they take a while to dry but 2 coats means opaque creamy colour.
The major downside is that they stink! I know all nail polish has a certain smell but this is so overpowering and chemical, its best to paint your nails outside or near an open window.

Benefit They're Real Mascara
This was my first BuyaPowa purchase and I'd been looking into getting this mascara for a while so I'm glad it popped up for cheap. I'm not sure any other mascara will end my love affair with Maybelline's Colossal but this one comes pretty close. The packaging is lovely, it feels very expensive and the lid screws on with a satisfying click so you know its properly closed. The wand is very rubbery and spikey, I'm a fan of the extra spikes at the tip of the wand too for getting those lashes in the corners. It builds up well, is a fairly wet formula (which I like) and its blacker than black.

DIY Lilac Dip Dye Hair

The dipdye/ombre trend is everywhere at the moment. But to freshen up the look for Spring, why not add some colour? I wanted a non-permanent solution to this look, and decided to self dye some old hair extensions. This way, I can clip in the coloured tips any time I like and remove them when I'm bored.
If you'd like to try this out for yourself then keep reading as I've put together a guide on how you can dip dye your own hair extensions...

What You Will Need:

set of hair extensions
pre-lighten / bleach hair kit
semi-permanent colourful hair dye (mine is the colour 'Lilac' from Directions)
tint brush
old towel
tinfoil
gloves (optional)

My hair extensions were a cheap set from ebay and originally a much lighter blonde. I dyed them to match my current hair colour, leaving the tips the original light blonde shade. If you have dark hair, it might be wise to pre-lighten or bleach the tips of your hair extensions. I don't know the best way of doing this so search around for tips and tricks and be aware that this will damage the condition of your extensions in the same way it would your own hair. Directions coloured semi-permanent dyes are brilliant over most hair shades, but if you have dark brown or black hair and want to achieve a light purple colour like mine, a pre-lighten will be necessary.
You can buy all different shades of Directions on ebay here for £3.45 with free delivery.
Lay out all your equipment before you start. I used an old towel to protect the floor and lay the ends of my extensions on regular kitchen tinfoil...

Start to apply the dye with your tint brush (you can get one in Superdrug or Boots for a few pounds.) Dye as much of the tips as you like. I covered about one quarter of the whole length of hair in Lilac dye. Blend the colour out a little into the rest of the hair so you don't end up with one straight line.
Turn the sections of hair over and apply the dye to the other side. This ensures full coverage of the tips and no odd missed-out sections.

The tub says leave for 15 mins. I left mine for 25 minutes. For darker hair colours, I'd suggest leaving it for up to an hour. After this time is up, rinse out the dye in luke-warm water. You can add a little conditioner to the tips and then rinse this out too. Leave to dry overnight - do not attempt to blow dry your hair extensions, let them dry naturally.

Style your new hair extensions in whichever way you like. Mine are actually a bit too short for my natural hair now, but if yours are adding some length to your hair you will achieve much more of a dip-dye effect.
I'd consider adding some pink in the future and go for a Lauren Conrad style tip dye!

Tartan and Leather

Leather Jacket - Peacocks
Tartan Scarf - Primark
Grey Drop Back Skirt - Primark
Converse Leather Hi Tops

A basic student outfit today - I was trekking to Uni with a huge portfolio and the weight of the world on my shoulders. Thankfully I completed everything I needed to and I can relax! For now....
I love this skirt, you can see me wearing here too in my Ways to Wear a Denim Shirt - I have it in black too but have been getting more wear out of this grey one, it seems to go with everything. I'm hoping Primark will bring out some pastel colours for the Spring.

I have lots planned for the weekend, working lots and I'm doing another fashion shoot for a friend tomorrow. I'm not sure I'm going to get a minute to myself. Luckily I already have a fun blog post written for the weekend. Working more just means more pennies to save for the US. I'm doing so well to keep all my tips in a jar and I refuse to count any of it until August but it's looking like I'll have a fair bit to treat myself with!

I've been searching around for this song ever since I heard it in H&M last week and thought the chorus sounded a bit like Daniel Bedingfield (thought he had made a come back!) its super cheesy but very catchy... you have been warned.

Pretty Floral Nails Tutorial

The warmer sunnier weather we've been getting recently has inspired me to create a Spring floral nail design using white as a back drop and pretty little pink flowers. There are so many great floral nail designs out there and this is just my take on the trend. Keep reading if you want to paint the design yourself!

Start off with white nails, I used two coats of OPI's Alpine Snow. Wait for it to dry completely. Take a pastel pink, mine is MUA Shade 16 and using a cotton bud, dot on varying spots of the colour. Be sure not to make the spots too close together....

Using a white nail art pen (or regular white polish with a thin paintbrush) add some white over the pink spots, blend these in slightly. It adds highlights and gives a 3-dimensional effect to the flowers.

Using a green nail art pen (or regular green polish and thin paintbrush) add leaves to either side of your flowers.

Finish with a top coat of your choice and enjoy your vintage floral nails!

Ways to Wear a Denim Shirt

The Denim Shirt - Topshop

This oversized boyfriend fit pale denim shirt from Topshop has become a wardrobe staple for me, I don't quite know how I lived without one. I think it appeals to me most due to the fact I feel like a painter in mine - a real artist! I'm going to show you a few ways I like to wear mine and hopefully inspire you to get the most out of your classic denim shirt....

The Layered Jumper

Silver Metallic Jumper with Zip Back - H&M
Black Leggings - H&M
Studded Slipper Shoes - Topshop

Orange Loose Knit Jumper - New Look
Leggings - as before
Shoes - as before

Layering your shirt with a jumper or cardigan adds the extra warmth needed for chilly days and buttoning your shirt up to the top adds interest and gives off that geek-chic vibe. I like to wear these outfits to lectures, I feel comfortable but still stylish. You can tuck the bottom of the shirt in for a more polished look.

The Casual Sunday

Freedom Newspaper Tee - Zara
Converse Leather Hi-tops
Leggings - as before

This outfit is perfect for lazy Sundays - a print tee, open shirt, converse and lots of chunky jewellery are perfect for slobbing about in or meeting up with friends for a chat. You can also see me wearing this outfit here.

The Shirt & Skirt
Black Drape Back Skirt - Primark
Shoes - as before

I think this might be the first outfit post of 2012 featuring bare legs! Of course, I'll be wearing this with tights if the weather's not great. I bought this skirt last week and I'm finding I can pair it with almost anything.
Roll your shirt sleeves up for a artsy relaxed look and add jewellery here and there.

The Leathers

Heart Print Dress/Top - H&M
Leather Jacket - Peacocks
Chelsea Boots - H&M
Belt - H&M

Another way to layer your denim shirt - pop it over a printed tea dress and add a chunky belt to tie it all together. Cropped leather jackets look great over shirts and I've paired mine with leather boots for a harder edge, grunge look.

Hopefully I've inspired some of you - I'd love to know which is your favourite outfit and how you wear your denim shirts. I'm currently on the look out for one in a dark denim and I even think this summer I'll be purchasing a denim jacket which I've always been opposed to in the past!
