Essie Nail Polish in above image (L-R)
Mink Muffs, Haute as Hello, Neo Whimsical, Mint Candy Apple
I first heard of Essie a few years back but never thought much of them. The polishes were difficult to get hold of being a US brand but the colour I kept hearing about was Mint Candy Apple. Everyone on the blogsphere seemed to own it. So when Essie polishes came to UK Boots and Superdrug stores this was the first shade I picked up!
I now own four Essie polishes - buying my other colours all at once in a set from Buyapowa.com
The polishes are beautifully creamy and easy to apply. The new bottles available in Boots come with an extra wide brush which means it takes seconds to apply to each nail. In the above image I have applied two coats of each shade which seems to be standard. You get exactly what you expect from looking at the bottle - no surprises. They also dry very quickly. Drying time is important to me, it's so frustrating when you've been patiently waiting ages for your nails to dry and then a whole hour later you catch one and it smudges. (I'm looking at you Models Own and Barry M!) This isn't the case with Essie polishes. I'd say my nails were dry to the touch in 5 minutes and I'd be happy to go about my daily activities after around 15 minutes without worrying about ruining a nail.
Out of the colours I own I think Mint Candy Apple really is a firm favourite. I can see why so many people own this one. But Haute as Hello is becoming a new go-to polish that's perfect for the summer and I'm sure will look great with a tan. It's a bright coral shade that has just the right amount of peach tones in it. I have it on my toes at the moment!
I already own a few shades similar to Neo Whimsical, I was hoping it would be a little more pink toned than lilac but I still love the colour and its a much better consistency than my Revlon Lilac Pastelle. Finally, Mink Muffs is a very classy colour that reminds me of a Chanel polish. The photo doesn't really do it justice. I'll be wearing it more often in the Autumn months but for a evening out when you need a neutral but elegant colour this is perfect.
Essie polishes aren't cheap at £7.99 each in Boots. Look out for sets on buyapowa or other money saving websites. They make the ideal presents or treats for yourself though!
